Spencer Spit

Arrived at Spencer Spit Thursday afternoon after debating the whole morning whether to venture out in the rain or not. Finally got a break in the rain so we went for it.

Shortly after arriving a large schooner sailboat with twenty or so people arrived. We all had our binoculars out spying on them!:) Then a boat club (6 boats) of wooden schooners from Canada arrived! We felt like we were in a wooden boat show! It was one of the first times where the wooden boats out number the Fiberglass boats...it might end up being the only time.







Friday morning we started out the day slow, which is unusual for opening day of crabbing season! I thought I'd wake up to my dad yelling "this ain't no rest home!" I lucked out and got to sleep in.:)

Crabbing wasn't too hot until we got our bait situation figured out. After that we kept catching crabs and processing them until three of us had caught our limit.

The weather was really strange! We spent the day in shorts. We were working on our tan while catching crabs.:). Once we got back to the boat after letting the dogs out for their evening bathroom break, the rain started! So, we spent our evening inside watching Soprano episodes. By bedtime the rain had stopped so there was hope for a sunny Saturday!

Saturday morning we woke up to rain and a wet cockpit!






Our first rainy day on the boat! Good thing we are all reading good books! Yes, I'm actually reading books! I'm on book number 11 right now....I'm surprising myself.:)

I missed breakfast club, but didn't forget about my girls!:)






After the rain let up we caught a few more crabs. Mom & I began our processing plant. We processed so much we were able to have crab dip for an afternoon snack. Yum!





Sunday morning Mother Nature threatened rain again! Nick brought sunshine into our morning by making us breakfast sandwiches!

After breakfast we were sitting in the cockpit and had to keep adding layers because it was so cold! Finally we said "Forgetaboutit!" and packed up and headed back to our slip.

On the way back we got rained on and finally lost our patience with this Washington summer...if you can call it a summer!! Took a look at the weather forecast and saw more rain! We decided to take a break from the boat and become sun chasers! Eastern Washington, here we come!!!

Bowman Bay Adventures

We had a great little adventure to Bowman Bay. On our way out to Bowman Bay we had a chat with another sailboat.

We tested out the new jib sail.

Nick got to steer the boat.

Took the doggies to shore & ran out of gas! Funny how the boys don't run out of gas when they go to shore! :)

Caught a couple crabs.

Then Shaundy & Greg came to play! Hailey and Shaundy got to see our bunk...a little bigger than their bunk! :)

The following day we all payed on the beach. Hailey tried pulling the dingy out of the water...cheap entertainment!

After Shaundy and Greg left, we stayed one more night at Bowman Bay. Mom, Nick and I walked over to Rosario Beach to do a little sight seeing and to test out the new camera.

The following day we sailed back to Flounder Bay. We ended up making it a quick trip as my dad needed to come back a little sooner than expected to get a remote control for his new autopilot. Supposedly the remote is the last thing he needs for the boat - I don't believe that AT ALL!!! :)

My mom's monthly lunch club with her high school girlfriends fell on one of the days that we were at dock, so I got to lunch with the "64 Girls"!

While the girls were away at lunch the boys changed the anchor light. Something the girls would not have approved of!!!!

So, we are still having fun! Tomorrow we are off to Spencer Spit for opening day of crabbing season in the San Juans!

Unexpected Visitors!!!

Yesterday we left the slip for a day of sailing & planned to have an overnight in Bowman Bay. I got a surprising text from my friend Shaundy telling me she was going to meet us in Bowman Bay! What an awesome surprise!

Shaundy, Greg & Hailey came just in time for evening cocktails!:)

Carly & CJ came for a visit!

A few weeks ago, my friend Carly and her son CJ (a.k.a. Christian) came to have dinner on the boat. My parents have had visitors throughout our trip, so it was really nice to have a visitor of my own. :) Carly has been my friend since grade school...hard to believe that we have stayed in contact all of these years!

After a tour of the boat we had taco salads with veggie meat. CJ didn't know it was veggie meat until after dinner. hee hee

Nick took CJ out for a ride in the dingy after dinner. They had a blast rowing around the marina. They saw a seal and followed it for a bit. A really fun adventure for a little kid and a big kid! :)

After the dingy ride it was time to play some games up in our bunk. Nick loves showing off his toys!

We had a great time catching up with Carly & CJ. Next time we are hoping Chris (Carly's husband) will have the night off work! We missed you Chris! :)

Prepping for another trip...

So I'm totally behind on blog posts! We have been having so much fun & I just haven't taken the time to catch up! Here is a quick phone post for those who are on pins & needles!:)

We are in Anacortes getting ready to take another trip. My dad installed a windvane & an autopilot over the last couple of days.

Nick got a new toy as well! He got a new camera after some bargaining with me!:) We will go out and try the new toys tomorrow!

As of this evening the plan is to head to Bowman Bay and catch some more crabs!!! So if you want some crab, give us a call & bring a bucket! We will give you a tour of the boat and send you home with some crabs. You will need to do the cleaning.:)

4th of July

Trying out posting a blog from my phone. On Saturday our friends , Greg & Shaundy, had asked us to join them for the 4th of July at a house they have rented on Orcas Island. We had to be back at the dock on Sunday for my dad to pick up an autopilot. So, it worked out perfectly for us to join our friends for the 4th.
After a couple days of fun & a few cocktails we started a conversation about blogging. Both Shaundy & her friend Wendy blog. Wendy & I started talking about blogging & she got me all set up to blog from my phone! So exciting!!!
